About the project
Software is built by people. The way we work together matters.
The Hybrid Leader examines practical problems faced by senior developers, tech leads, and engineering managers as software teams evolve.
We look at everyday decisions, team systems, the limits of our first interpretation, and the effects of AI-assisted work. The aim is to leave with a clearer question, a useful practice, or something small worth trying.
About the author: I'm Pavel Jiranek. I've worked in software development since 2007, including six years leading development teams. I'm still hands-on with software, and I bring that experience to practical questions about team judgment, team systems, and AI-assisted development.
Try it, don't just read about it. The THL Decision Lab offers short, fictional cases based on the kinds of choices software teams face. Make three decisions as new context emerges, then reflect on plausible consequences — no scores or signup required.
The ongoing articles and weekly updates live on Substack. This site is a small home for the project, with room to grow as useful public tools take shape.
